Beyond Flour and Sugar: The Real Value of a Home-Baked Custom Cake
Why Your Custom Cake Costs More Than a Supermarket Cake (and Why It’s Worth Every Penny)
You know that moment when someone looks at your cake, smiles, and says, “Wow… it’s beautiful… but… that much?!”
Ah yes, the sweet symphony of sugar, butter, and mild sticker shock.
Let’s get this straight: a custom cake is not just a cake. It’s an edible piece of art. It’s the couture gown of baked goods — fabulous, one-of-a-kind, and absolutely not available in aisle 7 of your local supermarket.
Supermarket cakes:
- Made in bulk.
- Ingredients chosen for cost, not flavour.
- Frosting that could survive the apocalypse.
- Designs… let’s call them safe. Nothing that you chose yourself, It was chosen for you.
My cakes:
- Real butter. Real cream. Real chocolate.
- Hours (sometimes days) of planning, sketching, baking, cooling, layering, decorating, and occasionally staring at it from across the kitchen to check if it’s vibing.
- A design that’s all yours. Your story, your colours, your flavour dreams brought to life.
- Zero preservatives (unless you count my sheer willpower).
When you buy a supermarket cake, you’re paying for convenience.
When you buy one of mine, you’re paying for:
- Ingredients that your taste buds will write thank-you notes for.
- Skill that took years (and several burnt cakes and fingers ) to master.
- Time — which, if we’re honest, is my most expensive ingredient.
- A memory — because people will forget the balloons, but they’ll remember that cake.
And sure, you could buy a cake for less.
You could also wear socks with sandals.
But some things in life… you just don’t do.
So, yes — my cakes cost more.
But they also mean more.
And if you’re going to celebrate something special, why not make it taste as good as it feels?
What about you?
